How did the wall impose itself on you as an artistic medium in the 1980s?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

L\u2019id\u00e9e ne m\u2019est pas venue seule. Quand j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 en 1985, je me suis inspir\u00e9e de ce que je voyais dans les rues parisiennes. Des \u00e9tudiants des Beaux-Arts se mettaient \u00e0 peindre des murs, des palissades, des d\u00e9cors urbains\u2026 \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, il y a d\u00e9j\u00e0 les VLP \u00ab\u00a0Vive La Peinture\u00a0\u00bb,\u00a0l\u2019\u00c9cole des Affiches, Beau Geste\u00a0qui d\u00e9tournait des affiches publicitaires\u2026 Il y avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un mouvement naissant. C\u2019est \u00e0 ce moment que j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d\u2019intervenir.<\/p>\n

J\u2019ai \u00e9galement assist\u00e9, quelques ann\u00e9es auparavant, \u00e0 la naissance du Hip-hop aux \u00c9tats-Unis, et donc des graffs. Ce melting pot<\/em> m\u2019a parl\u00e9 et c\u2019est \u00e0 ce moment que j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d\u2019intervenir car auparavant, je faisais du th\u00e9\u00e2tre de rue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Why did you choose the stencil technique as an artistic expression?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I chose the stencil technique because it is a fast and efficient means of printing which allows to multiply the images and texts in the city repeatedly.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

You always associate text images. Where does this idea come from to accompany your aphorism images?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I decided to accompany my images with text, quotes, because all the artists expressed themselves only through images. It was a way of bringing originality, but above all I have a passion for poetry and literature. It was about showing something other than just pictures.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

In love with words, who are the poets who inspired you?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Much younger, I was very influenced by the surrealists and then by the contemporaries. But the love of writing really comes from early childhood.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Your images are pretty stereotypical seductive brown women. Who is this femme fatale?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When I started to put text and images, it was very difficult to illustrate with the image of the text and vice versa. So I decided to find a spokesperson to report my quotes. At the beginning, I went on self-portraits that I quickly abandoned and I was inspired by the images of women that we are given to see in the media, advertising, fashion\u2026 I decided that this muse, the woman of today would carry my word.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

A word that conveys above all the idea of freedom…<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yes, that’s why my work is not only for women and is done only for women. It is for everyone, even animals.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

You leave little room for humans in your creations… Why?<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sometimes, there are men and couples. But it\u2019s true that he doesn\u2019t have the first role. In painting, generally, even male painters often painted women. It’s a bit of a tradition in painting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

You are often called as a feminist…<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yes, except that it’s a bit simplistic. I\u2019m not only a feminist, I am also an anarchist, hedonist … I\u2019m full of the feminine “ist” . And if I have something to add on feminism, I would say that I am even worse than feminist\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
