Une figure centrale, ail\u00e9e, \u00e9nigmatique et sombre, songeuse, semble \u00eatre en attente d\u2019inspiration. Elle est consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une\u00a0personnification\u00a0de la\u00a0m\u00e9lancolie. S\u2019inspirant de cette gravure d&#8217;une grande richesse symbolique pour r\u00e9aliser sa sculpture monumentale <em>Melencolia Contemporanea<\/em>, l\u2019artiste nous explique comment il s\u2019en ait empar\u00e9 pour r\u00e9interpr\u00e9ter et refl\u00e9ter la m\u00e9lancolie de notre monde actuel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Lorsque vous avez con\u00e7u une \u0153uvre pour la Biennale de Venise en 2022, vous vous \u00eates inspir\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Melencolia I d\u2019Albrecht D\u00fcrer. Pour quelle raison\u00a0?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>J\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s heureux lorsque le Yacht Club de Venise m\u2019a propos\u00e9 d\u2019exposer une \u0153uvre \u00e0 la Biennale en 2022. J&#8217;ai longuement r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi \u00e0 ce que je pouvais cr\u00e9er pour leur terrasse, avant de d\u00e9cider que ce serait l\u2019\u0153uvre de D\u00fcrer qui serait ma source d&#8217;inspiration. Pourquoi\u00a0? D\u00fcrer, c&#8217;est la m\u00e9lancolie\u2026 Il a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 graver cet \u00e9tat de l&#8217;artiste, mais aussi l\u2019\u00e9tat d\u2019une \u00e9poque m\u00e9lancolique, apathique, de silence et de pause. Cet \u00e9tat de m\u00e9lancolie est d\u00e9finitivement triste, mais c&#8217;est en m\u00eame temps l&#8217;\u00e9tape n\u00e9cessaire pour que la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 s&#8217;installe.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00fcrer, je l&#8217;ai d\u00e9couvert lorsque j&#8217;ai \u00e9tudi\u00e9 l&#8217;histoire de l&#8217;art, et il est rest\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent dans mon inconscient. Et c&#8217;est seulement au moment o\u00f9 j&#8217;ai d\u00fb r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 une \u0153uvre qui avait un sens particulier pour moi que j\u2019ai pens\u00e9 \u00e0 cet artiste. J\u2019ai pens\u00e9 \u00e0 lui parce que j&#8217;ai voulu faire une \u0153uvre qui avait un rapport avec mon parcours, mon v\u00e9cu et le monde d&#8217;aujourd&#8217;hui. Je crois que cette \u0153uvre refl\u00e8te justement ces trois points. Je suis n\u00e9 \u00e0 Alep, une ville totalement d\u00e9truite, d\u00e9molie. J&#8217;ai v\u00e9cu au Liban mes plus belles ann\u00e9es de jeunesse, pays qui, malheureusement, a connu une guerre civile qui l\u2019a d\u00e9molie pendant dix-sept ans. Je me suis donc dit que je devais faire une \u0153uvre qui \u00e9voque la m\u00e9lancolie en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, et qui puisse exprimer aussi ma propre m\u00e9lancolie.<\/p>\n<p>La m\u00e9lancolie est un des caract\u00e8res de l&#8217;homme. Adolescent, lorsque j&#8217;\u00e9tais en classe de philosophie, nous avions fait un test\u00a0: il s&#8217;est av\u00e9r\u00e9 que j&#8217;\u00e9tais m\u00e9lancolique, alors que d\u2019autres \u00e9taient passionn\u00e9s, volontaires, apathiques&#8230; Je croyais appartenir aux volontaires, mais il s\u2019av\u00e9rait que j&#8217;\u00e9tais un m\u00e9lancolique.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Selon-vous comment D\u00fcrer exprime-t-il cet \u00e9tat particulier qu\u2019est la m\u00e9lancolie\u00a0? Quels \u00e9l\u00e9ments retrouve-t-on dans cette gravure\u00a0?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Je pense que D\u00fcrer voyait la m\u00e9lancolie comme un \u00e9tat n\u00e9cessaire par lequel il faut passer pour arriver \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et \u00e0 l&#8217;action, parce qu\u2019apr\u00e8s la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9, il faut agir. \u2028Au centre de la gravure, sur la gauche, on retrouve un volume li\u00e9 au calcul g\u00e9om\u00e9trique des plan\u00e8tes que j\u2019aurais peine \u00e0 vous expliquer, ainsi que \u201cMelancolia I\u201d, \u00e9crit dans un cartouche tenu par une chauve-souris. Et le volume est un peu tordu\u00a0: j\u2019y vois un parall\u00e9l\u00e9pip\u00e8de ou un poly\u00e8dre. On retrouve aussi un carr\u00e9 magique, une sph\u00e8re, un arc-en-ciel, un coucher de soleil, la mer, un compas&#8230; Mais aussi les \u00e9l\u00e9ments de la construction, du d\u00e9veloppement et de l\u2019action qui sont le sablier, la mesure du temps, la balance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Parmi l\u2019ensemble des \u00e9l\u00e9ments que D\u00fcrer a int\u00e9gr\u00e9 dans son \u0153uvre pour repr\u00e9senter la m\u00e9lancolie, vous en avez choisi certains\u00a0: l\u2019\u00e9chelle et le volume. Pourquoi ce choix ?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Il y a beaucoup de choses chez D\u00fcrer pour repr\u00e9senter la m\u00e9lancolie, mais j&#8217;ai choisi deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments. L&#8217;\u00e9chelle pour l&#8217;espoir, et le volume pour l\u2019attente avant l\u2019action. Mon \u00e9chelle \u00e0 moi, c\u2019est celle qui monte au ciel. Elle est attach\u00e9e au socle, elle monte vers un espoir, vers un monde meilleur. J\u2019ai donc con\u00e7u cette \u0153uvre de quatre m\u00e8tres cinquante, que nous avons construite de toutes pi\u00e8ces \u00e0 Bruxelles, avant de la re-d\u00e9monter pour la r\u00e9-installer \u00e0 Venise. C&#8217;est le volume de D\u00fcrer qui est repris, avec une des facettes qui reprend trois lieux\u00a0: Alep, Beyrouth et le Liban. Le reste du volume repr\u00e9sente une r\u00e9flexion du monde d\u2019aujourd&#8217;hui, c&#8217;est le reflet de l&#8217;\u00e9tat actuel du monde. Par ailleurs, la souffrance est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par la partie br\u00fbl\u00e9e.<br \/>\n\u2028<br \/>\nMon \u0153uvre est un dialogue entre l&#8217;espoir et la souffrance, puisque j\u2019ai repris l&#8217;\u00e9chelle de D\u00fcrer, l\u2019un des seuls \u00e9l\u00e9ments que j&#8217;ai pris avec le volume. Y a-t-il d\u2019autres \u00e9l\u00e9ments du monde actuel que vous auriez pu \u00e9voquer\u00a0?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>J&#8217;aurais pu parler de Kiev, j&#8217;aurais pu parler de ce qui se passe dans le monde aujourd&#8217;hui, mais je ne voulais pas \u00eatre trop g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Tout le monde peut consid\u00e9rer que la m\u00e9lancolie pour notre monde, c&#8217;est l\u2019absence de solution, un monde qui ne trouve pas sa voie. Or, beaucoup de choses qui se passent dans le monde sont inadmissibles, \u00e7a \u00e9meut chacun d&#8217;entre nous. D\u2019ailleurs, ce n&#8217;est pas la guerre, c&#8217;est la peur de la guerre qui nous touche\u00a0: la peur des choses, pas les choses elles-m\u00eames.<br \/>\nQuand on n&#8217;est pas mort, on est vivant. Je crois que l\u2019\u00e2me maintient cette \u00e9nergie de faire la course avec le temps. Il y a un jour peut-\u00eatre o\u00f9 je devrai accepter que le temps va gagner.
