Aujourd\u2019hui, il nous parle de sa rencontre avec l\u2019artiste chinois Chen Zhen dans les ann\u00e9es 80. Les deux hommes nourrissent alors un dialogue f\u00e9cond, attach\u00e9s \u00e0 comprendre le monde de l\u2019autre, l\u2019occident et l\u2019orient. C\u2019est le d\u00e9but d\u2019une longue collaboration et d\u2019une grande amiti\u00e9. J\u00e9r\u00f4me Sans revient sur le jour o\u00f9 l\u2019artiste lui proposa de faire un workshop avec leurs familles respectives. Retour sur la fascination et la joie d\u2019une amiti\u00e9 et d\u2019une philosophie partag\u00e9es. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Parmi les nombreux artistes que vous avez rencontr\u00e9s durant votre carri\u00e8re, quel est celui qui vous a le plus marqu\u00e9\u00a0?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>L&#8217;artiste qui m&#8217;a certainement le plus marqu\u00e9 dans ma vie est Chen Zhen. C&#8217;\u00e9tait quelqu&#8217;un de fascinant, qui pouvait troubler quand on le rencontrait, non pas parce qu\u2019il \u00e9tait original, mais parce qu\u2019il \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s incarn\u00e9, tr\u00e8s puissant dans sa simplicit\u00e9. Il \u00e9tait dans l&#8217;\u00e9coute et dans le partage de la parole. Je l\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9 en 1986. J&#8217;avais alors 26 ans. Il s\u2019est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme journaliste pour un quotidien chinois et me disait qu\u2019il \u00e9tait en France pour interviewer diff\u00e9rentes personnalit\u00e9s et mieux comprendre le monde de l\u2019art contemporain\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Comment votre relation s\u2019est-elle d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e ?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Nous nous sommes vus plusieurs fois, pendant diff\u00e9rentes sessions. Il venait chez moi presque toutes les semaines. Et au bout d\u2019un moment, j\u2019ai compris qu\u2019il n\u2019\u00e9tait pas du tout journaliste. Son app\u00e9tence pour l\u2019art contemporain \u00e9tait \u00e9vidente. Il me posait \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de questions, et j\u2019ai fini par comprendre qu\u2019il \u00e9tait lui-m\u00eame artiste. Il venait d\u2019arriver de Chine, et le choc culturel avait compl\u00e8tement bloqu\u00e9 sa pratique de plasticien.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 chaque fois qu\u2019on se voyait, je lui demandais de me montrer quelque chose, mais pendant deux ans, il ne se sentait pr\u00eat \u00e0 partager son travail. Puis un jour, il m\u2019a appel\u00e9 et me dit : \u00ab Quelqu\u2019un m\u2019a pr\u00eat\u00e9 une salle pour deux jours. J\u2019y ai install\u00e9 des \u0153uvres pour toi, si tu veux venir voir. \u00bb J\u2019ai saut\u00e9 dans un bus, et l\u00e0, je suis tomb\u00e9 compl\u00e8tement par terre. En s\u2019y confrontant, en dialoguant\u00a0? Comment travaillait-il\u00a0? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Tout son travail consistait \u00e0 se confronter, en tant que Chinois, aux marges internationales o\u00f9 il pouvait aller. Il avait une soif de d\u00e9placement et de rencontres. Il a men\u00e9 des workshops, des collaborations avec diff\u00e9rentes communaut\u00e9s \u00e0 travers le monde. Deux projets, notamment, en sont tr\u00e8s repr\u00e9sentatifs : <em>Vulnerability <\/em>et <em>Un monde sans fronti\u00e8res<\/em>. Le premier, \u00e0 S\u00e3o Paulo, a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 avec des enfants de communaut\u00e9s tr\u00e8s d\u00e9favoris\u00e9es. Il leur a demand\u00e9 : \u00ab Quelle serait votre maison id\u00e9ale ? \u00bb Et ils ont construit, avec lui, des architectures \u00e0 partir de bougies.<\/p>\n<p>Tout le travail de Chen Zhen, c\u2019\u00e9tait de r\u00e9inventer le dialogue. Il voulait apprendre toutes les langues possibles. Il vivait avec une urgence absolue, car il souffrait depuis ses 25 ans d\u2019une leuc\u00e9mie. Que symbolisaient-elles pour lui ?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Les bougies sont des objets simples, mais tr\u00e8s forts. Elles accompagnent la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de chaque moment de la vie. Elles symbolisent le passage du temps, mais aussi, dans toutes les cultures, la naissance comme la mort. L\u2019\u00e2me, dans beaucoup de traditions, reste encore pr\u00e9sente dans la flamme. Il utilisait donc un vocabulaire transculturel, d\u2019une grande modestie, mais profond\u00e9ment universel.<br \/>\nUn jour, alors qu\u2019on allait d\u00e9jeuner avec sa femme, son fils, la m\u00e8re de mes enfants et mes deux enfants, on tombe sur une chaise d\u2019enfant abandonn\u00e9e, le long d\u2019un passage pi\u00e9ton. On la ramasse, et apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9jeuner, il nous propose de faire un workshop ensemble. Nous avons construit, \u00e0 quatorze mains, une maison, une sorte d\u2019architecture joyeuse, dans l\u2019euphorie du moment. C\u2019est cette \u0153uvre que je voulais partager avec vous, ici. tr\u00e8s forte. Elle semble \u00eatre le socle d\u2019une histoire \u00e0 raconter\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Pour moi, elle est l\u2019image de nos vies : tr\u00e8s \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res, comme une bougie qui se consume. La bougie peut \u00eatre solide, mais aussi d\u2019une fragilit\u00e9 extr\u00eame. Elle est comme nous : on peut tenir debout, et pourtant fondre \u00e0 tout moment, selon un changement d\u2019ambiance, un impr\u00e9vu. C\u2019\u00e9tait une histoire incroyablement belle \u2014 comme un temple d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 une amiti\u00e9, et \u00e0 une philosophie partag\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Vous avez finalement v\u00e9cu la m\u00eame situation de Chen Zhen. Et l\u00e0, tous mes rep\u00e8res s\u2019effondrent, comme les siens s\u2019\u00e9taient effondr\u00e9s \u00e0 son arriv\u00e9e en France. Pour moi, la v\u00e9ritable amiti\u00e9, ce n\u2019est pas seulement la fid\u00e9lit\u00e9, c\u2019est un dialogue o\u00f9 chacun se nourrit. Autant que je pouvais, je l\u2019ai pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 tous mes homologues, curateurs, critiques, journalistes\u2026 Il a pris son envol ainsi. C\u2019\u00e9tait magnifique. On a collabor\u00e9, dialogu\u00e9, travers\u00e9 ensemble tous les chapitres de sa cr\u00e9ation. Vivre toute l\u2019aventure d\u2019une \u0153uvre, de sa naissance \u00e0 sa derni\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce, c\u2019\u00e9tait absolument passionnant. On aurait aim\u00e9 que \u00e7a dure plus, c\u2019est s\u00fbr.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"intBlockQR\">\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__Q\"><p>Quelle le\u00e7on gardez-vous de cet artiste\u00a0? <\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <div class=\"intBlockQR__R\"><p>Je pense qu\u2019il m&#8217;a apport\u00e9 une qui\u00e9tude que je n&#8217;avais pas. Moi qui partais un peu dans tous les sens, je parlais tr\u00e8s vite, je courais tr\u00e8s vite\u2026 Il m&#8217;a appris \u00e0 regarder \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur et ne pas regarder qu&#8217;\u00e0 l&#8217;ext\u00e9rieur et surtout de voir l&#8217;autre comme quelque chose de positif, quelle que soit la relation qu&#8217;on peut rencontrer ici ou l\u00e0 ; ne pas s&#8217;affoler lorsqu\u2019un personne s&#8217;\u00e9nerve ou ne comprend pas, prendre le temps de la comprendre.<\/p>\n<p>Je pense qu\u2019il m\u2019a aussi appris l&#8217;extr\u00eame modestie. L\u2019extr\u00eame modestie que rien n&#8217;est jamais gagn\u00e9, que chaque jour est une \u00e9preuve diff\u00e9rente qu\u2019il faut prendre avec aisance et ne jamais regarder derri\u00e8re. On vit maintenant, il faut vivre dans l&#8217;extr\u00eame actualit\u00e9, dans l\u2019ultra pr\u00e9sent.
