Impressionn\u00e9 par la publication du&nbsp;<em>Salon de 1759<\/em>&nbsp;de Diderot par L<em>\u2019Artiste&nbsp;<\/em>en mars 1845, Baudelaire r\u00e9dige son premier Salon la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, selon la tradition classique par genre et par artiste mais il veut du neuf ! Il se fait le chantre de la modernit\u00e9 dans l\u2019art.<br>D\u00e9cr\u00e9tant que la critique doit \u00eatre avant tout amusante, po\u00e9tique, partiale, passionn\u00e9e et politique,&nbsp; il rejette la pr\u00e9sentation acad\u00e9mique des Salons pour privil\u00e9gier la r\u00e9flexion sur la production artistique moderne.<br>Pendant deux d\u00e9cennies, sa plume cinglante et lyrique d\u00e9nonce les comportements des bourgeois et des artistes qu\u2019il qualifie d\u2019\u00ab&nbsp;enfants g\u00e2t\u00e9s&nbsp;\u00bb qui ne savant pas lire. Il devient un fervent partisan de la caricature condamn\u00e9e par les politiques. Attentif aux nouvelles modes, il encourage la renaissance de l\u2019eau-forte. Il critique l\u2019engouement pour la photographie qui n\u2019est pas de l\u2019art mais une technologie formidable au service de l\u2019art. La photographie nuit \u00e0 l\u2019imagination or l\u2019imagination est la reine des facult\u00e9s. \u00ab&nbsp;C\u2019est un bonheur de r\u00eaver!&nbsp;\u00bb , proclame-t-il.<br><br>Pour Baudelaire, la modernit\u00e9 s\u2019incarne avant tout dans le romantisme. \u00ab&nbsp;Qui dit romantisme, dit art moderne, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire intimit\u00e9, spiritualit\u00e9, couleur, aspiration vers l\u2019infini, exprim\u00e9e par tous les moyens que contiennent les arts&nbsp;\u00bb. \u00ab&nbsp;Le romantisme n\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ni dans le choix des sujets ni dans la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 exacte mais dans la mani\u00e8re de sentir&nbsp;\u00bb.<br><br>En s\u2019\u00e9loignant du classicisme qui pr\u00f4nait un art moral et du r\u00e9alisme naissant, Baudelaire d\u00e9fend un art&nbsp; pr\u00f4nant le beau. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019il r\u00e9dige un \u00e9loge sur le maquillage, observant \u00ab&nbsp;que l\u2019artifice n\u2019embellit pas la laideur et ne pouvait servir que la beaut\u00e9. Qui oserait assigner \u00e0 l\u2019art la fonction st\u00e9rile d\u2019imiter la nature ?&nbsp;\u00bb.Au Panth\u00e9on des artistes, Baudelaire place Delacroix, ce h\u00e9ros moderne qui b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie de sa part de discours dithyrambiques, couronn\u00e9s par un \u00e9loge pan\u00e9gyrique prononc\u00e9 \u00e0 Bruxelles en 1864.&nbsp;<br><br>Le Beau n\u2019est pas forc\u00e9ment li\u00e9 \u00e0 la Joie selon le po\u00e8te empreint de m\u00e9lancolie. \u00ab&nbsp;Le plus parfait type de Beaut\u00e9 virile est Satan&nbsp;\u00bb. Il pousse sa r\u00e9flexion plus loin encore en \u00e9tudiant la caricature qui l\u2019am\u00e8ne \u00e0 conclure que l\u2019essence du rire est satanique. Il reconna\u00eet ainsi en Daumier le digne repr\u00e9sentant ce nouvel art reconnu comme tel et l\u2019un des plus grands ma\u00eetres de l\u2019art moderne.Manet et Courbet m\u00e9ritent l\u2019appr\u00e9ciation du critique bien que leurs oeuvres soient r\u00e9alistes.
