Pour Chaumet et le livre d\u2019exposition <em>V\u00e9g\u00e9tal<\/em>, elle a cr\u00e9\u00e9 l\u2019une de ses derni\u00e8res <strong>\u0153uvres<\/strong> durant l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 : un leporello color\u00e9 aux motifs botaniques, comme ode \u00e0 la nature. Hommage \u00e0 une artiste compl\u00e8te dont le travail demeure \u00e0 la fois humble et grandiose<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9e \u00e0 Beyrouth en 1925, d\u2019une m\u00e8re grecque et d\u2019un p\u00e8re syrien, Adnan grandit \u00e0 la crois\u00e9e de deux mondes, l\u2019Orient et l\u2019Occident et m\u00e8ne sa vie entre le Liban, les \u00c9tats-Unis et l\u2019Europe. S\u2019orientant d\u2019abord vers des \u00e9tudes de philosophie avant d\u2019enseigner cette discipline en Californie de 1958 \u00e0 1972, la jeune femme commence parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 peindre et \u00e0 \u00e9crire. L\u2019amour pour la nature et ses couleurs guidait son pinceau et sa plume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cet amour premier est n\u00e9 au Liban o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent le puissant parfum du jasmin \u00e0 celui plus subtile de la fleur d\u2019oranger. D\u00e8s son plus jeune \u00e2ge, Adnan est fascin\u00e9e par la beaut\u00e9 des \u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 la montagne et fortement impr\u00e9gn\u00e9e par ses \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturels avec lesquels elle ne semblait faire qu\u2019un. \u00c0 Laure Naimski, pour <em>L\u2019Inventaire<\/em>, elle confiait&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;La nature et nous formons un tout. Ce n\u2019est pas une id\u00e9e philosophique chez moi. Je le sens. J\u2019en suis consciente. Je suis tr\u00e8s proche de ce monde-l\u00e0. Enfant, \u00e0 Beyrouth, je me souviens que ma m\u00e8re m\u2019asseyait seule dans le jardin. Je parlais aux fleurs, aux animaux. C\u2019\u00e9tait mon monde&nbsp;\u00bb. Contemplative, \u00e9merveill\u00e9e, elle observe tous les jours depuis sa fen\u00eatre la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation de cette montagne. Adnan d\u00e9bute un travail pictural obsessionnel de ce point de vue&nbsp;: ainsi commence un dialogue f\u00e9cond entre art et nature. Le mont Tamalpa\u00efs \u00e9tait devenu son sujet de m\u00e9ditation, sa source d\u2019inspiration,&nbsp;comme la Sainte-Victoire le fut pour C\u00e9zanne. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compos\u00e9e principalement de petites huiles sur toile, de dessins au fusain et \u00e0 l\u2019encre de Chine ou encore de \u00ab livres-accord\u00e9ons \u00bb dits <em>leporellos<\/em>, qui ressemblent \u00e0 des sculptures de papier, l\u2019\u0153uvre picturale d\u2019Etel Adnan m\u00eale parfois dessin, \u00e9criture et po\u00e9sie, dont la nature est le sujet de pr\u00e9dilection.&nbsp;Paysage, horizon, colline, ciel, soleil, fleur, \u00e9pi de bl\u00e9, feuille\u2026&nbsp;Par la contemplation, elle cherche \u00e0 saisir l\u2019intensit\u00e9, l\u2019\u00e9nergie, la vibration qui \u00e9manent de ce qui l\u2019entoure. Ses peintures sont des&nbsp;mat\u00e9rialisations directes&nbsp;d\u2019une \u00e9motion face \u00e0 une nature florissante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la plus grande simplicit\u00e9, la peintre applique des plages de couleurs franches, travaill\u00e9es au couteau ou \u00e0 la spatule, sans jamais les m\u00e9langer. Une singuli\u00e8re \u00e9nergie, vibrante et joyeuse na\u00eet&nbsp;de sa palette vive et de ses aplats.&nbsp;Derri\u00e8re l\u2019humilit\u00e9 de son trait, proche de la candeur enfantine, elle dit la magnificence de la nature,&nbsp;la puissance germinative et le surgissement de la vie. En t\u00e9moigne son leporello in\u00e9dit pour Chaumet, qui figure avec une po\u00e9sie touchante des esp\u00e8ces botaniques&nbsp;parmi lesquelles une courge et des algues.
